Saint Crispin’s Model 104 Navy Wingtip

Saint Crispin's 104 Wingtip Oxford

Colours in shoes are generally underrated even though there are many colours on option which are quite a bit more interesting than black and still leave you with shoe formal enough to cover all but the most formal of occasions with ease and style. This dark navy wingtip from Saint Crispin’s is a case in point. Be blue once in a while. You’ll love it!

Leather: Navy Blue Hand Stained Crust Calf
Last: Classic Last

Saint Crispin’s Model 316 Saddle Derby

Saint Crispin's Saddle Derby in Vintage 606 crust leather

The 316 Saddle Derby is one of the iconic Saint Crispin’s models. Firstly, most companies don’t make the cap-toe derby as a saddle shoe but rather with a regular derby-arch, and secondly the elegance of the Saint Crispin’s saddle is really in a league of its own.

This particular pair for an esteemed customer of ours was hand-stained in the reddish medium-brown colour 606 but then bleached to give it a lighter more aged appearance. The result is a very personal and different shoe, tastefully understated, which will easily find 1001 uses in a classy spring and summer wardrobe.

Model: Saint Crispin’s 316 Saddle Derby
Leather: 606 Hand-stained and bleached crust calf
Last: Classic
Sole: Hand-welted Single Rendenbach Sole with wood-pegged waist

Saint Crispin’s Blue Suede Shoes

SC 110T Blue Suede

The shark last is not one of Saint Crispin’s more common lasts, but on a light summer loafer like this unlined model in blue suede, it is a great choice, and the thin sole construction is the perfect match.

Model: Saint Crispin’s 510T Tassle Loafer
Leather: BCK 058 Blue Suede
Last: Shark
Sole: Dress Shoe Sole

Saint Crispin’s Classic Last vs Riva Last

SC Classic vs Riva last

Two of the main Saint Crispin’s lasts in comparison: Classic vs Riva. Both are elegant looking round-toe lasts which, depending on the perspective, are different or the same.

Seen from above, the outline of both the Classic and the Riva last is the same. The difference comes only in the side view, where the Riva last has a slight rise and then soft chisel towards the tip of the shoes.

Generally the Riva last is a very nice choice for plain toe shoes without any decoration, or wingtips without a toe-medallion. The rise and chisel makes these shoes look more interesting and lets the light play nicely with the curves.

The classic last is a good choice for decorated toes or captoe shoes. The softer curving of the classic last makes room for a toe-medallion or straight-cap where the curvier Riva last would interfere more with these decorations.

Any perceived difference in width between the two lasts in the pictures from the top view is due to the fact that the Riva last shoes are a slightly narrower width than the Classic last shoes to the left. In the same fit, they are identical.

Saint Crispin’s Two-Eyelet Derby in Bordeaux

SC 118 Bordeaux

Strictly seen, a Derby shoe is more casual than an Oxford. This is true when comparing the same or at least similar designs. When a derby looks as clean and elegant as this Two-Eyelet version from Saint Crispin’s, there is many an Oxford that we would consider less formal and certainly less elegant.

Model: Saint Crispin’s Two-Eyelet Derby 118
Leather: Bordeaux Hand-stained Crust Calf
Last: Classic
Sole: Single Rendenbach Leather Sole with Wood-Pegged Waist

Vass Colour Variations: Bordeaux, Oxblood, Navy

Vass Colours Bordeaux, Oxblood, and Navy

Making decisions about leather colours based on pictures is always difficult because mostly the light conditions of different shots vary and the results are hard to compare – a problem easily solved by putting different colours in one picture.

Featured above are the Bordeaux, Oxblood, and Navy boxcalf from Vass on the Double Monk and Old English II models.
